Revelation Walk
Recently we took some of our youth, and the youth from a sister church (The Church of God at Quintown), over near Pell City to Eden West Side Baptist Church’s annual Revelation Walk. It’s a huge 52 acre walk through drama presentation of the book of Revelation. It’s normally held in the fall as a sort of Halloween alternative and evangelistic campaign. We had a blast! We enjoyed the event and the good fellowship on the ride there and back on the church bus. We even spent about an hour in Krystal’s afterwards refreshing ourselves and hamming it up togther. A good time was had by all.
The drawback (for me at least) was that rather than a walk through the book of Revelation it was more like a recreation of the Left Behind movie concept. And it was complete with the whole “second chance - if you missed the rapture and will refuse the mark you can still be saved” teaching. Those of you who know me or have set under my teaching no that I don’t believe that. Now, I respect others views on it, even if they differ with mine. It’s not a make it or break it item. Still, Jesus gave the parable of the wise and foolish virgins precisley to teach us to be ready for His return because if we (like the foolish virgins in the parable) missed it we would find no entrance later. That, at the very least, gives me reason to pause and hold the “second chance” view in suspicion. My sentiment, which I shared with the group once we were back in the van, was that I hope this “second chance” position is correct, because I don’t want anybody to be lost, but that I strongly doubt it. I therefore urged everyone to make sure and be ready when Jesus comes because then we will not need to worry about it!
Overall we had a great time, enjoyed the ministry of this event, and participated in God honoring fellowship. If you missed it we hope you’ll be at the next youth event!
